”Companies just can’t afford to hire people without experience, because they don’t succeed. Its great that Merit Ontario sets standards for training for its recognized training facilities, The PAT Institute folks are great, they know what to expect and they get the job done”
-Steven Myers a proud Merit Electrical Contractor

“The graduates coming out of the PAT Institute Merit program are excellent, and the Merit Job Link Program is the only place I hire. PAT graduates on the first day are like one of my apprentices that has worked in the field for 10 months. I don’t hire from anywhere else.
-Louis Santos Plumbing Contractor.

ABOUT MERIT ONTARIO

Merit Openshop Contractors Association of Ontario is a not-for-profit association representing open-shop or non-union construction companies across Ontario. Open-shop or Merit contractors represent over 70% of Ontario’s construction workforce, although many people believe that construction labour is primarily union. As a result, the interests of the majority of contractors are often unrepresented at the governmental and public policy levels.

Individually these companies are not united and do not have a strong voice representing their interests to government. Merit Ontario’s purpose is to promote the interests of Merit employers and their employees by providing human resource services and advocacy. Although Merit contractors represent the majority of the construction industry, without Merit Ontario, they would have very little representation, services or benefits.

Merit employers believe in delivering the best possible human resource practices, especially a commitment to group benefits, retirement plans and training in order to develop a loyal, safe and highly skilled workforce. Many small businesses can’t access or afford a strong benefits package such as the Merit Hourbank plan that we provide. The Merit affinity programs also represent savings in purchases for Merit businesses, their employees and their families.

Our Goal for the Merit Joblink:

To support the industry through the creation of links that support contractors, accross the province, by linking our members with qualified journeyman, apprentices and pre-apprentices through the Merit Ontario Joblink. Merit Ontario recognised training centers include, the OEL Pre-Apprenticeship Training Institute in Toronto,  and the CLAC Pre-Apprenticeship Training Institute in Cambridge and Merit Ontario Pre-Apprenticeship Training Institute in Toronto.
